Anti Aging advice based on a personal real life situation

I am 52 years old.  I was using Obagi Nu Derm, 10% Professional C Serum and the lowest strength of Tretinoin at night.  I have used Obagi for the last ten months and decided a few weeks ago to stop using it as I don’t think it’s very good to use Obagi on a long term basis.

I purchased the Cell Youth Actif and Crystal Clarity Microderbrasion Cream couple of weeks ago.  So my skincare routine the last couple of weeks has been to use up the remaining Obagi cleanser, use the Cell Youth Actif and Blue Lizard Moisturizing Sunscreen.  At night, I use the Obagi cleanser and Cell Youth Actif only.  Then I use the microdermabrasion cream 2-3 times a week.

I do not have any wrinkles or dry skin.  Problem areas I have are some lines on neck and some hyperpigmentation. Do you have any suggestions on what other products I can incorporate or is what I am doing sufficient?

I agree with you in terms of not using harsh cosmetic solutions long term. I don’t like the Obaji system for it’s harshness (though it definitely is effective) and also for the fact that all their products are tested on animals – something I absolutely oppose at all times.

As you have probably seen from my website/shop/youtube videos/blog I am definitely not a fan of harsh detergent cleansers so my recommendation for all (and the only cleanser I use on clients in my facial treatments) is the Dr Schwab Sensitive Cleanser. The technique is definitely different so make sure you check out the video ‘the correct way to use a gentle cleanser‘.

To lift hyperpigmentation an alpha hydroxy acid like Age Limit is good to start off with and then build into the lower pH Glyco-A-Gel. Tretinoin (Retin-A type prescription products) will also reduce pigmentation. Sometimes, if the skin is strong and not too sensitized by the Obaji products, using the alpha hydroxy first and tretinoin next will increase penetration and results….but we have to keep an eye on any increased levels of skin weakness, redness and irritation….and if this happens then using the 2 types of products together is not recommended, stop using both of them for a week then start again using just 1 of them. Weakening the skin barrier for the sake of reducing brown spots is not worth it in my eyes….we only have 1 skin so we should do whatever we can to keep it strong for the rest of our lives….

At night you should follow the Cell Youth Actif with an appropriate moisturizer or, my favourite, Stress Recovery Complex….

The Cell Youth Actif will be helpful on the neck, as will the alpha hydroxy acid. I don’t use the crystal clarity – I prefer to use the alpha hydroxy acid as the exfoliator (actually I don’t like any kind of scrub/gommage). I wash it off with cool water before applying Cell Youth Actif at night… ensure the skin’s pH is not lower than the pH of the Cell Youth Actif. In the morning I apply Cell Youth Actif and put the Tu’el Regenerative Firming mask on top of it and leave on for 10 minutes before showering it off….the skin feels and looks fantastic for the rest of the day

Make sure the sunscreen is a minimum of 10% minerals as the active ingredients and no reliance on other ingredients as active ingredients. See the information in the blog category Sunscreens.

Hope that helps and thank you for your support.
