Seduction is wonderful – except when it messes up your health and your skin – in which case a meaningful long term relationship is highly recommended… Seductive marketing hype (aka lies) makes you believe that…you are going to look 20 years younger, you are going to be slender, you are going to replace flab with toned muscle And all in a very short period of time?
The seduction of new weigh-loss diets and miraculous antiaging creams (some even by money grabbing doctors) costs millions of people a lot of money, and may even cause health problems. I highly recommend the documentary ‘Hungry for change‘. You can watch the complete film, free, online if you register, or you can stream it on Netflix etc. I liked it because they are common sense people who are dedicated to good nutrition and nutrition advice. Some of them blatantly call out the marketing lies in the food industry (I like it when they do that) 🙂
Dr Christiane Northrop is a wonderfully pragmatic medical doctor….and the nutritionist in the film have had some pretty serious issues with their own weight and health. I particularly liked the practical approach suggested to enable changing the way you eat…simply add in healthy fruit and vegetables and they will naturally crowd-out the junk food…and it’s definitely more effective than shock-therapy-type-diets that cause withdrawal discomfort…and reduces your will power to stick with the diet.
The big problem with nutrition information is how the food industry tries to distort the facts by claiming that ‘scientists have proven that their processed food is safe and nutritious’… REALLY. And then the media regurgitates this garbage information as if it is fact! They do it all the time, like Coke paying nutrition ‘experts’ to say coke is a nutritious snack…. Like the GMO industry paying scientists to say genetically modified food is as good for you as natural or organic food… Like the tobacco industry paying experts to say that smoking tobacco (or even ecigarettes) are not bad for you…. Like politicians paying scientists to claim that there is no such thing as Global Warming and Climate Change…. Money can turn any smart scientist or nutritionist into a prostitute! So just be wise, and moderate your acceptance of industry BS and lies….because money making industry marketers are just like politicians – they lie all the time!
Unfortunately the movie also has these nutritionists making statements about what you put on your skin…the over-hyped claim that everything you put on your skin is absorbed into the blood shows that these people should concentrate on nutrition and not skin care. Check out the video ‘How The Skin Works‘ for more information and to understand the way we are made (which is NOT in the image of the marketers).
Essentially, YOU can be the proof that the skin does NOT absorb everything you put on it…
For example: Will you put all your food in a blender and then smear it over your skin rather than eat it – and yet your body will be as fit and healthy? Will you suggest to your doctor that you crush your anti-depressant/anti anxiety/blood pressure/acid reflux pills etc into your moisturizer and smear it all over the face/body? Based on this hypothesis that your skin absorbs everything, then motor mechanics should die at a very young age – with petroleum and synthetic (toxic?) products all over their hands/arms every day? The list of potential toxins is endless – and fatal if they enter the body in large quantities – but the net outcome is that our bodies are designed with a skin that can keep most stuff out! If all the skin care products that claim to take you back 20 years really worked because ‘the skin absorbs everything’, there would only be a few products on the market – but there are hundreds of thousands making those claims….and we are all still looking for the magical 20 year reversal cream…
The best approach to skin care is to keep your skin strong and balanced, treat it sensitively, and it will work wonderfully well and look naturally younger because it is strong and balanced. It is difficult to create products that can be absorbed by the skin – and usually only small amounts of well formulated products are absorbed. Medically this is well known, otherwise they could make every drug into an easy to use cosmetic cream… Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder – so behold your own natural beauty and not the fake beauty created by marketers and the celebrity machine…
